I walk slowly, as if walking in a dream
In the beginning It’s heavy and slow and then suddenly
Everything becomes a blur
So many faces, so many eyes, each gazing intently into my face
While I drift through a crowd, looking for someone

It’s dark and quiet
The silence is deafening
I’m sitting on a rickety boat
Underneath a sky full of stars

I hear a roar which cuts through the stillness, like a knife
I see a pair of eyes far away in the jungle and I want to run
But stranded on the boat am I and I don’t know how to swim!

I’m in a valley now and the sky is overcast
Big dollops of raindrops fall and splat across the ground

I have legs, yet I can’t run
I seem to be frozen in time
While a stranger seem to be approaching me from afar

I open my mouth to yell but only a silent scream escapes me
Why can’t I move? What is happening to me?

I surface from a dazzle of lights

My hair is smooth as silk
My skin flawless
My eyes sparkle
My glossy lips wear a flirtatious smile

I seem to be at the centre
Surrounded by a circle of admirers

Each calling out my name
While their cameras flash away, purringly

Something shimmers in the distance and I’m drawn to it
Someone spectacularly breath-taking awaits me
Yet, her eyes are flaring with anger
There is the same roar as her eyes turn yellow
The fur has become orange and black stripes appear

“You need to have courage to seek who you are!”

The words spoken, the majestic beast turns to leave
While I stay rooted to the ground
I glance down and the fur on my skin seem to be fading
I astonishingly look up and hold her gaze

“You have to earn the auburn layer and the coat of arms”

It proclaims, while vanishing…

  1. Wow! What a fantastic poem, Harshi. There is so much power in your words, and my imagination was working overtime, waiting for the following line and then the next. My heart was in my mouth as I read. Brilliant writing and poetry. Xxx 🥰👏💖

      1. Thanks, Harshi. I am fine, thank you, just incredibly busy getting the room ready for my son and grandchildren to move into soon. I haven’t had to time to write a post this week either. You probably heard about the heatwave in the UK, 41C on Monday and Tuesday. It was just unbearable. Thankfully, it is a little cooler today. Much better – for me anyway. Thanks for asking. Xxx 💖🌼🌞

  2. An intriguing enigma of a dream come alive in poetry…I love the layered scenes, the fear turned to self confidence and then the wise words of your majestic beast and guide. Beautifully retold and cloaked in the mystery of the seeker.
