Has it ever happened to you that life went by in a flash? Months flown by without you even registering them? The last three months of my life did and boy, was it crazy!
One moment I was sitting and contemplating the meaning of “42”, saying “Oh! Life is so dull.” Calling out to the deities who reside beyond the clouds to splash some colour on my existence. The very next moment my wish was granted. Only, the wish came with a twist. It’s as if a witch was migrating on her broomstick when she heard me sigh and chuckled to herself and snapped her fingers; and a spell was cast and things were happening at lightning speed, must faster than I could comprehend them. It was akin to me being part of a movie and someone had pressed the fast-forward button. My life was on auto-pilot. Worst of all was the fact that I could no longer find the “extraordinary” in the ordinary.
Life also made me experience strange moments and it’s true about what they say about life being stranger than fiction. It’s also about wearing someone else’s shoes and walking around in them. It gives you a whole new perspective.
There were also many doorways, bridges, long corridors of power which I walked through. Some with a companion and a few alone. The thing is, if you ask Life to share some “experiences” with you, then you better be prepared when it takes you on a joyride.
Talking of doors. It’s funny how we assume that most of them are shut to us, whereas all that we really need to do is to reach out and turn the knob. If it’s shut, maybe we’re not ready yet or are being protected. But mostly it’s about trusting oneself to go ahead and take the plunge. To take the opportunity. This I did and am thankful for it. More on it later as I’m still processing it but I do promise to share it when the time is right.
Struggles are a part of growing. We put an age bracket on growing up but honestly that’s the most kiddish thing ever. I had a few struggles and thankfully the witch I had mentioned earlier, thought of paying me a visit. She clearly saw that I’d had my share of ordeals. I was like Dorothy from Wizard of Oz, yearning for things to go back to the way they were. Desperately calling out “There’s no place like Home!”
With the snap of her fingers, order was restored. The spell broke and I enjoyed breathing again. I was alive! I could feel the joy of everyday things once again. The feel of the crisp morning air while walking my daughter to her bus-stop. The aroma of herbs and veggies and oil and butter while cooking. The feel of the leaves and fragrance of flowers and the wet earth. The feel of the pages of a book………….. the glow of diyas during the festival of lights!
Be careful what you wish for folks when you wish upon a star. I wished upon a witch and she turned out to be my muse!

~ 42 is the answer to the “ultimate question of life, the universe, and everything,” a joke in Douglas Adams’s 1979 novel, The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. 42 yo is also what I turned this year in September.
