Can you hear me?

Women’s Day Special!

Thoughts keep popping up in my head
I wake up to some and carry some to bed

Have you ever heard whispers in your ear?
That the world seems to know it all
But at times, forgets to hear!

Let’s discuss today, What women don’t want
Let go of all inhibitions and let’s chat about all taunts

She’s sooooo thin. She’s so fat!
Seem to be the usual crap

Clothes are another issue
Irrespective of whether they are made of denim or tissue
Too wide, too low
hemlines continuously take a blow

The Biological clock is ticking
But my dreams just began clicking

Who is the perfect person? What’s the right time?
Let me make my own decisions. They may be right or wrong; but they’re mine

If I talk about Periods, why do you shut me up?
It’s my choice to use a pad or a menstrual cup

Are my demands any different from a male counterpart?
Why shouldn’t I be paid as much as him? When do we start?

A woman is a human with feelings
She also needs growth and healing

I have a voice which needs to be heard
I have so many emotions which need to be stirred

Unflinching, fearless, I want to walk the streets
Dream unlimited and courageously compete!

Will this ever become a reality?
Or will I always be a target of sexuality?

The world needs to wake up and see me for who I am
Yes! Now is the time to give a damn!

  2. I really glad that International Women’s Day is now being celebrated so widely around the world.
My own daughter Felicia is currently at University studying bio sciences. She a very smart cookie who is very determined to achieve her career goals and be judged on her talent not on her gender.

  3. A beautiful and inspiring poem, Harshi. Just perfect for Women’s Day, even though I am rather late in reading and commenting. I like the wisdom, strength and sensitivity with which you write. You say many important things that both sexes should know about women. One of them that I also totally agree with is that women should be safe out at night or even late evening without fearing attack from a man (although I appreciate that not all men are a risk to women, only a very few). This is a subject very close to my heart. It is scary being a woman out and alone. I wonder how many men feel the same way, although, apparently, more men are violently attacked than women these days. Nevertheless, it’s more often that the man is the perpetrator. I do believe that we should have equal rights for men and women. Both are equally important to society. Thanks for sharing a very important topic, my friend. Xx 😘💕
